HEARTFELT CRY - ATTENTION

Two sisters said the same thing but one moved the Master to take action.
Does it have to do with what the one said or how she said it?

This episode discusses how to get the Master's prompt attention.

Dear Believer and reader, I'm excited to write to you again. It feels like one month of not writing due to our first quarter review.

I really hope you catch the same energy in reading and sharing.

I trust you have been blessed by all 12 episodes, please, spam with your testimonies and lessons learned in the comment section. I love to read them.

If you have not read all, here is the link to read all episodes.

By the time you are done reading this episode, your eyes would have been opened to a better way to get God's attention.

I look forward to hearing your testimony.

This is a beautiful story I read for myself the first time. I'll share it with you. It is in the book of John 11.

Very common story that I have heard many times but I read it by myself the first time.

In John 11: 32-34, Mary came to meet Jesus and dropped at his feet. She had no strength to ask for or say anything, she and those that followed her could only cry. Jesus could not bear to see Mary and her followers cry, He was touched and was moved. Then, He asked her where Lazarus was kept.

This is just the summary, you can read the bible passage in the picture story below.

We can't help but talk about Mary's sister, Martha and her meeting with Jesus.

Martha also went to meet Jesus, there was no record that she fell at Jesus's feet or that she cried. She was just talking, probably on a defensive note.

Again, I tried to imagine that scene like anyone else will.

On hearing that Bros J was in town, Martha immediately left to meet Jesus.

She must have been a little upset with Him.

If I were Martha, maybe I'd have gone to meet Jesus in black clothes, with my arms folded in anger, a swollen face as a result of heavy tears and mucous coming out from my left nose moving towards my lips, pheww.

They sent him words early enough, yet He delayed.

No one loses a loved one and not cry. Martha must have cried a lot like Mary did. It must have been hard for her too.

Maybe she just got over it quickly enough to move on. She accepted her fate and was ready to bear the loss of her brother.

Let's not get distracted... we were talking about Mary.

* * *

Mary had sat at Jesus's feet to hear the Word before. When she got to Jesus this time, she broke down to tears at Jesus's feet. Poor child.

Well, something amuses me in this story.

These two sisters said the same words, but one moved Jesus' spirit.

Jesus was not just moved in the spirit, He immediately asked where Lazarus was kept.

What was it with what Mary said? What lessons can we learn from this story as believers?

LESSONS TO LEARN

1. Even though Mary and Martha said the same thing, one was defensive and one was spirit-broken.

Our brokeness before God moves him to take action.

Just coming to God showing Him that you are helpless and need His help moves Him to give you all the help you may ever need.

Mary didn't say anything else because she had lost strength. She sobbed enough to show Jesus that she had no strength of her own.

Scripture says God's strength is made perfect in our weaknesses.

'In our weaknesses. In your weakness'

We must learn to lose our strength so that God can step in.

2. God was moved when He saw how bitterly Mary and her friends shed tears. Mary dropped her ego and strength and was vulnerable.

Just like Jesus was concerned about Mary's family, He's concerned about you and yours too.

He wants to be involved in all; including your pains.

He longs to help you and you must be vulnerable to him.

Cry when/if you need to.

Even a baby knows the best way to get his mother's attention is by crying.

Not necessarily crying tears but a heart felt cry to God moves him.

When you cry to God, it causes Him to arise because He loves you and can't bear any hurt come near you.

In summary, Dear Believer, be vulnerable to God. Get His attention through a heartfelt cry.

He will never refuse a broken spirit. He will always arise to help a believer who accepts that s(he) has no strength of her own.

When next you go and meet God, go meet Him like a baby who wants to collect biscuit or permission to watch TV.

To get His attention, be vulnerable to your Father. Be vulnerable!

Let us pray:

Father, we thank you for your Word to us today. Thank you for the blessings we have received.

Please, help us to seek you with a childlike heart and faith.

That whenever we come to meet you, you arise and help us.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

  1. Despite the loss and the pain, Mary still bowed at Jesus feet, signifying surrender and acknowledgement of Jesus as Lord over the situation. Jesus responded in love and power. May the Lord attend to our cries in Jesus name. God bless you Layomi for the inspirational piece. I'm always glad to read every Thursday.
