TEMPTATION AND THE WORD 5

Studying the temptations of Jesus has been mind-blowing, really. I really learnt a lot and I'm about to share the top ten lessons from the three temptations.

Feel free to contribute and drop what you learned at the end. I pray that you will live victoriously above temptations. Amen.

1. Temptations may necessary not be about sins, they may not be sexual, they may not be about manipulating figures at work or church or stealing.

They could be subtle like wanting to respond harshly to a situation, seeing food and deciding not to fast anymore, talking too much or being a gossip etc.

The real truth is that temptations will always come and that's why we have the Holy Spirit to help us respond rightly.

2. You can't do life alone. Do it with the Holy Spirit.

Life is easier to live with Him than without Him. (John 14:26)

3. Sacrifice and submission is necessary in the believer's journey. Jesus submitted to the Holy Spirit to direct his response. He also sacrificed his power to fulfill destiny.

We must learn to sacrifice and submit. Minister Dunsin Oyekan wrote in his song, "those who will win", that those will win must know and learn how to bow before Him (God).

4. We have to use the Word to tackle temptation(s) ourselves. No one will use the Word on your behalf.

You have to read it, know it, believe it and use it. God won't do what he has given you the power to do already.

5. Temptations and tests are slightly different. Temptations are for you to fall or fail, tests are to know your level and stretch you.

6. When you fear a thing, you bring its manifestation closer. Job said in Job 3:25 that what he feared most had befallen Him. You should not fear temptations or else you make yourself vulnerable when it happens, rather, you should live life with the consciousness that you have the power of God to overcome when temptations come.

7. Jesus talked about the things we would face in this world and I must be factual, they are not nice things.

I am only consoled that Jesus as well as our fathers have passed through these things victoriously and we can, too.

Jesus also talked about how when we pass these tests, we would receive the crown of life. (James 1:12)

8. Jesus faced 3 temptation in the row.

Naturally, that can be overwhelming for a man as Isaiah 40:30 rightly puts it, but the Holy Spirit was his support system. The Holy Spirit is the only one who can stand as a backup when temptations rain their blows on you. Make Him your support system.

9. It was true Jesus was hungry, it was true He could jump down to prove a point to the Devil, it was true He didn't have access to His power in Heaven.

It was also true that God was rooting for Him to overcome.

God is not wicked. He's not unconcerned about our welfare or the things we face every day.

He promised to make a way of escape for us when it gets tough.

The bible records that He supplied angels almost immediately the Devil left the scene.

The angels had been waiting for Devil to leave, and almost immediately, they came to minister to the needs of Jesus.

It doesn't matter how many things you are facing or that are facing you at the same time, please, keep holding on to God and His Holy Spirit.

God the Father is rooting for you to overcome,

God the son is rooting for you,

God the Holy Spirit is rooting for you,

I am rooting for you, too.

10. One of the hymns that have blessed me this year is "Speak to my soul, Lord Jesus".

Full Lyrics here.

Speak to my soul, Lord Jesus.

Speak now in tenderest tone.

Whisper in loving kindness,

"You are not left alone".

Open my heart to hear you ,

Quickly to hear your voice.

Fill my soul now with praises,

Let me rejoice in you.

Chr: Speak in softest whispers,

Whispers of love to me.

"You shall be always a conqueror, you shall be always free".

Speak to me each day, Lord.

Always in tenderest tone.

Let me know hear your whispers,

"You are not left alone".

For those who are painfully facing one temptation or the other and feel overwhelmed ready to fall, I pray that you receive strength to hold on.

God is saying in the most silent whispers that you're not left alone. He's with you in this. You'd overcome.

Keep holding on, God bless you. ❤️

Let us pray:

Father, thank you for this series. Thank you for opening our eyes to the ways Devil can bring temptations.

Thank you for allowing Jesus pass through these things and overcome.

Thank you because we know we can overcome too.

We ask that you help us yield to the Holy Spirit as we live life everyday. That you give us victory over temptations everytime and help us to know we're not alone in our Christian walk. Amen.
