MY PRODIGAL MOTHER HEN - LWY EP 2
Have you ever thought of running away from your immediate environment? Have you even attempted it before? Well, my hen did. Will it come back home? Will you go back home?
Find out in this blog post Chicken Episode 2 - My prodigal mother hen.
Mr X once reared a mother hen, brown in color. It was one of the hens that gave birth to high number of chicks among others.
However, it lacked the grace of parenting. It was an experienced careless mother.
You could trust it to give you many chicks but never to keep them.
She would hatch, then take them out and either lose them on the way or host the Eagle some chicks at a hot afternoon 'prey luncheon'.
This mother hen [let's call it Z], Z got pregnant again and laid many eggs as usual. It hatched them and we're all glad. She hatched 7 eggs.

Few days later, some series of funny events happened.
She started putting up attitude - a very disgusting one. She became defensive and irritable. She seemed to me to be feeling too special as a nursing mother and wanted some nice treatment.
Then, she took her chicks to test the ground and feel the world's warmth.
She moved with her chicks as soon as she was let go one bright morning and went on a vacation spree for many days.
She didn't come home. Then, she was seen briefly and not again until many days later.
At some point everyone was quite concerned. "Was it stolen? Did it die? Did the flood carry it? What happened to this hen?"
Different questions crossed the minds of everyone who seemed to care.
I jokingly blurted out on one of the many days it went missing and a discussion about it was raised.
"Adìyẹ yí ti ni àlè, o tin ri èyán kan n'ita" (this hen has started seeing a male partner, she has started committing adultery).
Well, that may seem funny or unreasonable but this is me being honest repeating what I said.
Well, what else was it doing leaving home for many days and not returning if I were to be proved wrong?
Even Yoruba says "Ori Ade kin sun ita" (Royalties will always retire home after the day's work)
I however noticed something else though. Everytime Z came back home, the chicks behind it reduced.
It was funny how 7 chicks turned 5, then 4, then 3 and 2.
The next time it came home with a single chick behind it, I urged that the hen should be tied so it doesn't walk away again.
I made it clear that I was never going to eat out of the chicken if it was eventually killed because it was useless.
And even if I was going to eat from it, may it never be heard that I ate the head, legs or arms.
As far as I was concerned, I cannot allow the evil in these parts befall me, LOL.
Mr X didn't buy any of our suggestions so we kept quiet and watched. He believed it wouldn't run away.
Maybe, just maybe the hen heard this and decided to disappoint us, it stayed around for about 24 hours and we all believed that it had come to stay.
Few hours later, Z disappeared - this for more than 48 hours and when it came back, it came back alone wretched, used and useless.
I was so angry that I protested it needed to be killed.
If not that I was afraid of chicken, I'd have done so myself.
Mr X however shocked us all with his verdict.
He declared that the hen would live. He said he liked her feather color.
Tueh! Who color help?
No one could raise an objection. The owner has given his judgement and the accusers were silenced.
From that day onward, this hen stayed home. I noticed this and was reminded of this popular story in the Bible.
The story of the prodigal son. [Luke 15:11-32]
He left his own house (without no man pursuing him, no be juju be that?), he left his family full and confident only to come back empty.
He was so confident he was never going to return. He was so sure he was never going to need the help of his family and he was going to make it without them.
I can imagine the day he was leaving, with his box full of clothes, drinks, and pocket full of money.
Then, he stands at the entrance door, ready to leave and proclaims out loud "I am man enough and I'm going to live in independence from today. You guys have caged me for so long that I don't know my worth. I don't need you, so don't look for me.When I am successful, you'll all be shocked. And please, don't come seeking to associate with me by then"
And then, he walks out majestically like a champion in the best of his father's cars he had taken for himself and probably gives the gate man some change so he can start feeling the affluence who in turn raises up his hands in the air with a rugged voice saying "Tuale, Baba mi! Wa sere." (Chairman, na you o, live long!)
When he lost everything, he came to his senses and went back home.
Juju don clear.
At least, he came back, he didn't go and commit suicide or live all his remaining days in regret.
Well in the case of this hen, I'm sure it was same story line too.
She must have been feeling proud that the first time she went out without coming back and was confronted, she aggressively snapped back and boasted about her intention to move out of the poultry house soon to a better place.
Then, she moved to intimidate all the other people in the poultry house who started to wish they had a better place to go to too.
Then, we see her come back and back with nothing plus a loss of chicks.
Personally, I don't know why the hen came back after losing everything; probably she found out that her man was another man's wife and was driven out by the iyawo ile(legal wife).
Don't mind me, too much of Yoruba and -wood movies. I have lessened my screen time though.
However, it did come back and Mr X in particular, was happy.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Did you run away from home? Have you threatened to leave home and never come back? Have you even left home leaving the words that don't qualify you to go back?
Maybe you have to reconsider. Maybe you have to sit and learn from the prodigal son and this hen's story.
You have caused your parents the ache of bearing in mind a child who they don't know is either dead or alive. You need to go back home.
Maybe you haven't even left home and don't plan to. Maybe it has to do with your faith in God.
Have you left Jesus' care to test the world's powers? Have you gone out of God's abode (Israel) like Naomi only to find out that the world is just so cruel? Did you suddenly find yourself drifting away from the true love of God and gone far in the wrong way?
Can I ask what good this action has done for you? Has leaving benefited you or emptied you of all of you?
If you're sure and accept that leaving the right path was a big mistake, then I'm talking to you.
If you know that you are empty and helpless and you want restoration, then you need to continue reading this.
You're only helpless but not hopless.
I say it again, you're not hopeless.
You're the only one who can decide at this point to either seek help or not.
The prodigal son and that hen came back to their owners because they had trust in them.
God is not a military man but a loving father. He has been waiting for you. He has anticipated your coming back long before now and it's a good thing that you're reading this so you can make that decision now.
No matter how long you've gone/left home, He will always be happy to see you come back home.
If an ordinary hen could think of coming back home to its owner and it was received with so much gladness, how much more God who cares a lot more than man?
Remember Naomi in Ruth 1:2-22? She went away from Israel with a family but came back with nothing, save her persistent daughter-in-love.
When she came back home, God restored and shined upon her. [Ruth 4:13-14]. This happened only after she returned home.
Your space in God's palms has remained the way you left it. You need to come back home. Come take back your space.
God is waiting for you! I am rooting for you! Please, come back home. Daddy says He misses you so much.
If you are ready to go back into the arms of your Father, please say this prayer.
"Father, thank you for who you are - a loving Father. I'm sorry for leaving and disappointing you. I am empty and miserable. I am sorry for causing you grief in my absence. Please, accept me back as your child. Outside you is hopelessness, please restore me back to you. Help me to walk with you all the days of my life. Thank you Jesus for hearing me. Amen."
If you meant the words you said, I can assure you that God has heard you. I congratulate you because the angels are rejoicing already. I hope you can hear them.
Welcome back to the fold; we have missed you, I have missed you.
I would like to share in your joy.
